Ice Rink Will Not Return This Holiday Season In Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, CA — Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. recently announced that the ice rink will not return for the 2021-2022 season due to electrical problems.

The electrical hub is damaged and needs repairs, the company said. The rink is located at 1324 5th St., Santa Monica.

"In January of 2021, the electrical infrastructure at the surface parking lot that serves as the home of Ice at Santa Monica was damaged substantially," the company wrote on its website. "DTSM has been working with Southern California Edison and the City of Santa Monica to obtain funding and the proper permits to perform repairs and purchase replacement parts."

Unfortunately, these replacement parts will not be available in time for the start of the 2021-2022 Ice at Santa Monica season, the company said.

Skaters can plan to glide at the Santa Monica rink in 2022.

"DTSM will repair the electrical infrastructure as soon as replacement parts arrive and look forward to welcoming skaters back in the fall of 2022," the company said.

Other events are planned for the holidays in downtown Santa Monica, including the City of Santa Monica Holiday Tree and Promenade Menorah lightings this holiday season.

People can stay tuned for other upcoming holiday celebrations at the same location as the rink.

"DTSM is collaborating with the City of Santa Monica to host other community events at the Ice parking lot and will be announcing additional exciting holiday activities soon," the company said.
