Item Found In Trash At Third Street Promenade Not A Threat
A bomb squad was called to investigate a device resembling a pressure cooker found in a trash can at Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.
SANTA MONICA, CA — A device that looked like a pressure cooker was found late Monday afternoon in a trash can near the Third Street Promenade, prompting evacuations in the area as a bomb squad was called in to investigate. However, after an investigation, Santa Monica police found the device was not a threat.
The Santa Monica Police Department announced that the item had been found at about 6 p.m. in the 1400 block of the Promenade.
People were asked to leave the area and a nearby stretch of Broadway was closed to vehicle traffic.

A sheriff's bomb squad was called in to examine the item and determine if it posed a threat, police said.
Officials announced about 8:25 p.m. that the device posed no threat to the public.

The evacuated lower third of the Promenade and the closed portion of Broadway were expected to be reopened by 10 p.m., police said.
Officer have determined there is no threat to the public from the item placed in the trash container near the 1400 block of the #3rdStreetPromenade. We anticipate the area will reopen in before 10pm. We appreciate your patience & cooperation.
