Pacific Park Lights the Ferris Wheel in White and Red to Honor Polish Independence Day
Illumination celebrates shared values of freedom and unity on Nov. 11 — Poland's National Independence Day and U.S. Veterans Day
Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier will honor Polish Independence Day with a special lighting of the world-famous Ferris Wheel in Poland’s national colors—white and red—on Monday, November 10, beginning at sunset. The dazzling LED display celebrates Poland’s regaining of independence on November 11, 1918, following 123 years of partitions by Russia, Prussia, and Austria.
The lighting also recognizes the shared date with U.S. Veterans Day, marking the end of World War I and a moment of unity between the two nations in honoring freedom, courage, and gratitude.
Each year on November 11, the people of Poland commemorate the historic moment in 1918 when their nation reemerged as an independent state—thanks in part to U.S. President Woodrow Wilson and his “14 Points” presented at the 1918 Paris Peace Conference, which called for “an independent Polish state (…)”

This shared date serves as a powerful reminder of the deep historical ties between Poland and the United States. As America prepares for the 250th anniversary of its founding in 2026, it is also a time to reflect on the contributions of Polish heroes like Thaddeus Kościuszko and Casimir Pulaski, who helped shape the nation during the Revolutionary War.
