Santa Monica, Malibu Schools Reopen Amid Getty Fire
The Getty Fire is not fully contained, but the roads are open and the air quality is within protocol, school officials said.
SANTA MONICA, CA — Schools in Santa Monica and Malibu reopened Tuesday amid the Getty Fire, which forced schools to close yesterday.
In the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, preschool, before and after school care and Boys & Girls Clubs are also open Tuesday.
"We are not in the evacuation area of the Getty Fire, the roads are open, there is no threat of wind until late tonight and the air quality is within our protocols to open school," Superintendent Ben Drati said in an email to parents. "We understand that there is a light scent of smoke in some neighborhoods and that may linger for a while due to the Getty Fire, still not fully contained."
