Santa Monica Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Burglary, Police Say

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

SANTA MONICA, CA —A 27-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, according to the Santa Monica Police Department this week.

An in-progress burglary was reported about 3:20 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of 7th Street, near Alta Avenue.

"According to the call, the resident was able to see a male inside the detached garage through one of the garage’s windows," police said.

Officers set up a perimeter around the property and detained the man as he walked outside.

Edgar Alexis Matias, 27, of Santa Monica, was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Matias has had prior theft-related arrests, including an arrest related to a burglary on Aug. 13 in Santa Monica.

No bail was set for Matias and his next court date is Dec. 14 at LAX Superior Court. He is expected to be released in February 2022.
