Suspect Arrested In Armored Truck Robbery In Santa Monica
A security guard fired shots after a suspect attempted to rob an armored truck with a knife at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Police arrested a man suspected of robbing a Brinks armored truck while armed with a knife near Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica Friday.
An armed security officer shot at a suspect three times around 11:15 a.m. near Third Street and Arizona Avenue, prompting panic among shoppers.
Santa Monica police swarmed the area, setting up a perimeter around a section of the Third Street Promenade as they searched for the suspect. No injuries were reported, police said.

The man fled on foot, reportedly with a bag of money, but was arrested in an alley after police swarmed the area. His name was not immediately released.
"A male suspect approached an armored truck wielding a knife," police said in a statement. "The security officer shot at the suspect three times. ..."

Video from the scene showed police arresting a balding, bespectacled man wearing tan pants, sneakers and a golf shirt.
BREAKING: Reports of gunfire at the Santa Monica Promenade are accurate, but no one has been hurt and this is NOT an active shooter. This appears to have been a security guard shooting at a suspect for unknown reasons, per SaMo PD.
