Small Aircraft Makes Hard Landing In Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, CA — A small aircraft pilot made a hard landing Thursday morning, the Santa Monica Fire Department said.

It happened in the 3300 Block of Donald Douglas Loop, just north of the Santa Monica Airport, about 10:32 a.m. Thursday, Santa Monica Fire Department Capt. Patrick Nulty said.

The Santa Monica Fire Department received a call from the Santa Monica Airport Tower about a single aircraft experiencing a hard landing, Nulty said.

Emergency responders found a small aircraft with minor damage to the bottom of the fuselage and propeller and the collapse of the nose landing gear, Nulty said.

The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the plane, had exited the aircraft on his own. No other injuries were reported.

No fire or fuel spills, or airport damage was reported.

The pilot was evaluated by paramedics and there was no need to be taken to the hospital, fire officials said. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
