What’s Closed On Memorial Day In Santa Monica

Many employers, government offices and services will close to observe the Monday holiday across California.

SANTA MONICA, CA — On Memorial Day, the bustle of daily business will slow down a bit in California as swaths of government offices, banks and businesses close to observe the holiday.

The holiday, which honors men and women of the military who died in service, was recognized as a holiday in 1971.

In Santa Monica, the courthouse and government buildings will close.

The Big Blue Bus in Santa Monica will operate a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day. Customer Service and Blue: The Transit Store will be closed. Normal hours of operation will resume Tuesday. Express 7, Rapids 3, 7 and 10, and Routes 5, 15, 16, 42, 43, and 44 will not be in service. UCLA’s Hilgard Terminal will be closed. Routes 1, 2 & 8: Serve Charles E. Young/P2 Hub instead. On federal holidays, most banks close, and transactions come to a halt. Across the state, Wells Fargo, Chase, Capital One, Bank of America, U.S. Bank and California Bank & Trust will close.

In Santa Monica, local banks will close. All government offices and schools will also close, courts will not be in session, and the Department of Motor Vehicles will shut down.

In Santa Monica and across the state, the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver on Memorial Day. UPS will not deliver or pick up on Monday. FedEx services will also likely be closed.

Restaurants and grocery stores will likely remain open to accommodate Californians who have the day off.
