Crews were able to cap the line about two hours later. A third-party contractor had been excavating at the home and struck the line, according to Tostado.

Santa Clara County firefighters also responded to the scene, fire spokeswoman Stephanie Stuehler said.

It was not clear if gas lines were marked at the home before the digging work began, according to Tostado.

The public is advised to call 811 to make sure gas lines are marked to avoid any ruptures, Tostado said.
