Saratoga Man is 'Outstanding Volunteer'
Bill Russell receives American Red Cross Silicon Valley Chapter's 'Outstanding Leadership Award.'

Saratoga resident Bill Russell has received the American Red Cross Silicon Valley Chapter's Outstanding Leadership Award.
Russell was among 30 volunteers recognized for their service in May during the organization's annual meeting in Mountain View.
Russell was lauded for being a “doer” and not just a “viewer” guiding the Silicon Valley Chapter through many transitions and organizational changes.
Russell began his Red Cross career assisting, and then leading, the finance committee and ultimately became a member of the board of directors.
"The Silicon Valley Chapter would not be in the solid shape that it is today if Bill had not been volunteering his time and talent for the past 12 years," the organization said in a press release.
Russell currently serves as chairman of the American Red Cross Silicon Valley Chapter board of directors.
He first became involved with the American Red Cross in 2004, when he was elected treasurer and finance committee chairman.
He served from 2004 to 2007 in this role and then became chairman of the CEO search committee in 2007.
In 2010, Bill served again as treasurer and finance committee chairman.
He brings more than 35 years of business experience overseas and in the U.S. that includes holding significant sales and general management leadership positions with the Computing Systems Organization of Hewlett Packard, according to his bio.
He has extensive board experience and is currently serving as an independent director and non-executive chairman and as a member of the nominating and governance committee, audit committee and compensation committee, at a number of organizations including: SABA (Nasdaq: SABA) , PROS (NYSE: PRO) , ParAccel, KXEN, and B.T. Mancini, his bio stated.
