Heat Advisory In Sherman Oaks As Temps Hit Triple Digits

Temperatures soared to 102 degrees in Sherman Oaks on Monday.

SHERMAN OAKS, CA — With another heatwave bearing down on Sherman Oaks, officials have issued a heat advisory warning residents to take extra precautions to stay cool.

The heat advisory will last until Tuesday night at 8 p.m. unless extended.

"Hot conditions with temperatures of 97 to 107 degrees expected," National Weather Service said. "Overnight temperatures up to 70 to 75 degrees across warmest locations. Hot conditions will increase the risk for heat-related illness for sensitive populations including the very young, the very old, and those active outdoors."

Temperatures in Sherman Oaks hit 102 degrees on Monday. Forecasters expect highs of 98 and 96 on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

The warning advises people who work outside to schedule breaks in the shade or air-conditioning whenever possible. The NWS also issued a reminder not to leave children, pets or the elderly inside locked cars, even with the windows down, as interior temperatures can quickly rise to fatal levels.

"Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke," NWS said. "Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
