Photos: Sierra Madre's 2013 Wistaria Festival

After rain and windy weather hampered bloom of Sierra Madre's famous wistaria during last year's festvial and a 2011 festival that was mostly rained out, the 2013 Wistaria Festival had great weather - warm sunny, but not too hot.

With the date also coinciding with St. Patrick's Day, the purple of the bloom mixed with the green that many visitors wore and added to the festive spirit of the event.

The festival, which is highlighted by the annual vine viewing, first began in the early 20th century, drawing as many as 100,000 visitors over an extended period of time. The vine is the world’s largest blossoming plant, and at its peak, the vine had as many as 1.5 million blooms, weighed 250 tons, and covered more than an acre of ground.
