Sierra Madre Woman Appointed to PUSD Board

Mikala Rahn, the co-founder of a charter school in Pasadena and Sierra Madre resident has been appointed to a vacancy on the PUSD board, according to a press release issued by the district.

Rahn, who was selected over the weekend by the board,  is the director of Public Works, a non-profit educational consulting firm and the founder of Learning Works, a charter school in Pasadena that "targets high school dropouts, teen mothers and youth on probation," according to the district.

She will serve on the board through 2015 taking over the remainder of the term of Kim Kenne, an Altadena resident elected in 2011.

There were 38 applicants for the position that the board had to choose from, according to the district press release.

Rahn's appointment makes her the only Sierra Madre resident on the board - PUSD's districting measure, which was passed by voters last year, divided the district into electoral subdistricts which will eventually give Sierra Madre a seat that will likely be filled by a resident of the town.  However, the full transition to the new electoral system will not be complete until 2015.
