2 Arrested After Police Find Loaded Guns During Vehicle Search

SANTA ROSA, CA — Santa Rosa police arrested a man and a juvenile following a vehicle search where they recovered loaded firearms and suspected narcotics, officers announced.

On Saturday at around 11:18 p.m., officers reportedly contacted five individuals after allegedly seeing them drinking alcohol in their car in the 6400 block of Montecito Boulevard, police said.

According to the police, Alexis Mota, 24, allegedly discarded an object nearby before returning to the car.

When officers made contact, they recognized the group as alleged gang members, a press release issued Sunday noted.

One of them, a juvenile, had an outstanding arrest warrant, police said.

Police reportedly found a loaded, unregistered Taurus G2 9mm handgun in the wheel well of a nearby parked car later, the press release further noted.

Mota allegedly admitted to discarding the gun and was also found with suspected narcotics, police said.

A second loaded, unregistered 9mm "Poly80" handgun was reportedly recovered from the juvenile, according to SRPD.

Mota was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for suspicion of possessing a firearm and narcotics.

The juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall on firearm-related offenses and the outstanding warrant.

Three others were released at the scene.
