New digital self-care tool available to Kaiser Permanente members

The Ginger app provides on-demand, text-based coaching, complementing comprehensive system of mental health care and clinical services.

Kaiser Permanente Northern California adult members nowhave an additional resource to help support their emotional health. Ginger, a new app, provides members with ongoing text-based coaching support, and it complements Kaiser Permanente’s comprehensive mental health care and clinical services.
The launch of the Ginger app will give Kaiser Permanentemembers access to confidential, emotional support through on-demand, text-based coaching. This digital self-care tool is one of many ways Kaiser Permanente Northern California is meeting the mental health needs of our patients, including inpatient care, individual and group therapy, teletherapy, access to digital self-help tools, and collaboration among our expert caregivers across care disciplines.

Ginger is another example of how Kaiser Permanente Northern California continues to provide the latest innovations in care delivery to support the mental health needs of its members with evidence-based practices.

In 2020, Kaiser Permanente added the first two apps to its digital self-care portfolio: Calm, a leading app for mindfulness meditation, and myStrength, an app designed to help people improve well-being and enhance sleep or mood. These digital self-help tools are intended to complement, not replace, the broad range of treatment services provided by Kaiser Permanente’s mental health care clinicians.

Eligible Kaiser Permanente Northern California members can access the Ginger app by going to kp.org/coachingapps/ncal and clicking on the “Get Ginger” button. Members will be prompted to sign on using their kp.org user ID and password, and then will be directed to Ginger to complete their registration and begin accessing coaching and additional resources. The 90-day, no-cost subscription to Ginger begins when the member activates their account.
