SONOMA VALLEY, CA — An injured man stranded on a rugged stretch of the Sonoma coast was airlifted to safety this weekend by helicopter.

The man was on Wright's beach when a wave hit him, injuring his leg.

Footage of the rescue shows a Sonoma County Sheriff's Office deputy dropping by helicopter from the road down to the beach to attach a long line to the injured man for transport.

The Henry 1 helicopter pilot lifted the man to an ambulance waiting on the roadway for transport to a hospital.

Wright's Beach, like Goat Rock and other beaches along the coast are known for strong undertow and sneaker waves.

A Sonoma County Fire District spokesman said Facebook that visitors should be careful when visiting the Sonoma County coastline that, while beautiful, can be "unpredictable and dangerous."
