Rollover Crash Lands Driver in Hospital

Police are looking for witnesses to the Thursday crash, which happened on Fifth Street West at West MacArthur

A man was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Thursday after single-vehicle crash, which caused his car to flip and crash into a home on Fifth Street West.

The driver, a 78-year-old Sonoma man, was driving his Volvo SUV southbound on Fifth Street West just before 1:35 p.m., when he lost control of the car, which jumped a curb, struck a fire hydrant and flipped on its side – eventually plowing into a nearby house, causing minor damage to the structure. At the time of the accident one resident was home, who was uninjured.

The extricated the man from his car, and transported him to a nearby field, where he was loaded flown by helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. _ He is currently listed in stable condition.

Fifth Street West was closed for approximately two hours Thursday, between West MacArthur and Harrington, while crews removed the car and cleaned up debris.

Police are still looking into the cause of the collision, though according to a release, they are not considering alcohol a potential factor.
