Police targeted 11 different Sonoma Valley businesses for the undercover sting

 

Police cited two businesses for furnishing alcohol to a minor Friday, Jan. 6 by the Sonoma Police Department and the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control.

All in all the undercover decoys targeted 11 Sonoma Valley businesses, including the ,, , 7-11 and . Only two provided the youths with drinks.

The employees who furnished the alcohol received criminal citations. The two businesses owners will be referred to the Control for administrative review.

Typically, the owners of establishments which fail the sting operation are enrolled in seminars on preventing underage drinking.

In addition, four people were cited during a 'shoulder-tap' operation, where the decoys attempt to convince adults to purchase them alcohol from a store or other venue.

These operations are funded by a $25,000 year-long grant, provided by the Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control, to reduce underage drinking in the Sonoma Valley. The operations began in July.
