Stabbing, Carjacking Suspect Arrested After Manhunt Prompts School Lockdowns
The search for the suspect forced several schools to shelter in place, authorities said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A man accused of stabbing a victim and stealing their car in Windsor was arrested earlier this week after a search that forced several schools to shelter in place, authorities said Friday.
The Windsor Police Department said officers responded around 2:58 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a stabbing and carjacking at Arata and Elsbree lanes. The victim, who was hospitalized after receiving medical aid at the scene, identified the suspect as 37-year-old Daniel Tirado Gonzalez, a transient.
Deputies soon found the stolen vehicle on Vinecrest Road, but could not determine if Gonzalez was still inside. With Gonzalez believed to be armed with a knife, the Sheriff's Office deployed its helicopter crew and a drone while issuing a Nixle alert to the community.

As a precaution, Windsor Unified School District ordered shelter-in-place protocols at Mattie Washburn Elementary, Brooks Elementary, and Cali Calmecac Language Academy, which had afterschool programs underway. The Windsor High School cross-country team, practicing at Foothill Park, was escorted back to campus by staff after receiving notice from a school officer.
Community members later flagged down officers and helped direct the helicopter crew to Gonzalez's location near Pleasant Avenue and Old Redwood Highway, where he was arrested.
