Storm Knocks Out Power For Thousands In North Bay, Elementary School Near Sonoma Coast Closes Classes

A storm sweeping through the region on Wednesday morning downed power to thousands of customers.

SONOMA COUNTY — A storm sweeping through the region on Wednesday morning downed power to thousands of customers in the North Bay, including an elementary school in northern Sonoma County that canceled classes for the day.

As of 7:40 a.m., PG&E reported that 5,670 customers without power in the Bay Area, and 4,100 of those were located in Marin and Sonoma counties, and another 600 on the Peninsula.

Families in the Horicon Elementary School District in Sonoma County were notified that classes were canceled, according to the Sonoma County Office of Education.

"The storm has knocked out power on campus, so school is canceled today. We will see you on Thursday, November 6. Thank you," Horicon school officials posted on their website Wednesday morning.

Horicon Elementary is located in Annapolis, an unincorporated area near the coastline of northern Sonoma County.

An outage for five customers in Annapolis was reported at 6:26 a.m. on PG&E's outage map. "Our crew found a power line on the ground and will make repairs," PG&E said. The estimated time for restored power is 6 p.m. Wednesday.
