The Raceway Formerly Known As Infineon

The 10-year sponsorship deal has expired, meaning Infineon raceway will now go by 'Sonoma Raceway'

Though may look the same, host the same events and employ the same staff, next month the Raceway is getting a shiny new branding.

As of June 1, the Raceway will no longer use the 'Infineon' name.

"Our 10-year sponsorship with Infineon Technologies will expire and the company has decided not to renew the agreement," wrote John Cardinale, vice-president of communications and marketing for the raceway, in an e-mail. "We are actively pursuing a new partner to take over naming rights, but nothing is imminent at this point."

While the staff looks for a new sponsorship deal, the raceway will go by the regional name of 'Sonoma.'

Cardinale doesn't see the switch as too jarring.

"Quite frankly, we have become just as identifiable through our region (Sonoma) as we have through our actual name (Infineon Raceway)," he wrote.

Meanwhile, the raceway formerly known as Infineon has updated all their contact information to reflect the new nom de plume.
