What to do with downed trees, power lines, phone lines, etc.

The City of South Pasadena Department of Public Works is working on clearing and cleaning damaged trees.

Meanwhile, find useful emergency information here via the City. 

1. A power line is down. What do I do and whom should I call?

Do not touch any downed lines, even if you don’t see sparks.  Call the Southern California Edison at (800) 611-1911.  If you do see sparks, it is a live wire and is very dangerous.  Call 9-1-1.
 
2. My power is still out. When will it be back on?

Crews are working diligently to restore power to all customers. You can get updates by visiting the Southern California Edison website or call (800) 611-1911.
 
The Library will have extended hours over the weekend. The community is welcome to stop by to keep warm, charge cell phones and/or laptops and just lounge in comfort away from the cold.  For more information call (626) 403-7330.

The South Pasadena Senior Center is now a temporary shelter for those without power. The Red Cross is providing cots, blankets and pillows.  The City will be providing a modest meal.  (626) 403-7360

3. I have a downed tree. What do I do?

If it’s a City of South Pasadena tree, call the city at (626) 403-7240.  The city will remove any trees that have fallen in public right of way.  If a tree has fallen on your private property you may contract a licensed tree trimming company to remove and cut any damaged tree.  Please call the Public Works department to notify them of how many trees that are being removed and what type of trees were damaged. If it has damaged any property, contact your insurance company.
 
4. Do I need a permit to trim or remove a tree?

No, due to the emergency situation, the City will waive permit fees.  However, you will still need to notify the City Public Works Department so that you are not fined or prosecuted at a later date.

5. My fence blew down. What do I do?  

Contact your neighbor and your insurance company.
 
6. My phone line is down. What do I do?

Don’t touch it.  Contact your phone company.
 
7. My cable line is down. What do I do?

Contact your cable provider.
 
8. My cable or satellite TV is not working. What do I do?

Contact your cable or satellite TV provider. All City trees are trimmed on a multi-year tree trimming schedule. Depending on the species of tree, there are differing cycles on how often the tree gets trimmed.
