Election Winners Look Towards New Era

Marina Khubesrian pulled in 1,748 votes—just three more than incumbent Richard Schneider. Bob Joe took the third seat finishing with 1,478 votes.

South Pasadena will see a woman on City Council for the first time since 2003 with challenger taking the most votes in Tuesday's election. 

“I’m really excited. I think what I said really resonated with the community—people wanted a change,” said Khubesrian shortly after the results were revealed.

“We have a great team. I think the five of us will work really well together,” she continued.

“There are many issues and many programs projects and all that need to be looked on and worked on as a City,” said Joe. “But I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

came in sixth place of the nine candidates—behind and former councilman  respectively.

Some speculated Ten lost due to his stance on the 710 Freeway.

“He’s been straddling the freeway issue all these years—and people finally figured it out,” said former South Pas Mayor Mike Montgomery at a watch party for Ernie Arnold and Margrave Tuesday night. 

Although Margrave differentiated himself with strong opposition to it wasn't enough to win him a seat. 

Measure UT passed with 54 percent of the votes. But Margrave says his fight is far from over. 

"How do we get more people to understand where we are at—not only the economy but what direction we are going in as a community?" he said Tuesday. 

All candidates will be sworn in Dec. 7. And Mayor Pro Temp Michael Cacciotti will be the next Mayor.
