Firefly Bistro Gets a Facelift

It's been operating in South Pasadena for the past 10 years, but, tucked away on El Centro Street, Firefly Bistro still eluded residents, one of its owners said Tuesday.

So, Carl Weintraub, added, it was time to open things up a bit.

"We took down the awning and the fence that surrounded that sidewalk section of the restaurant, and have replaced the fence with a low railing. This will, hopefully, open the façade of the restaurant to the public’s eye,'' he wrote in an email to Patch. 

"I always thought that people would be more inclined to dine under an awning. But the awning masked the front of Firefly, so that many people drove, or even walked, by us without knowing we are here,'' he added. 

The whir of saws and banging of hammers echoed down El Centro Street this week, as construction workers ripped out the old and erected a new terrace. Weintraub noted it can be challenging to own a business that is not on Mission Street or Fair Oaks Avenue, two South Pas streets teeming with retail stores and restaurants. 

Weintraub hopes to have the renovations complete by the end of the week.
