After taking the podium, he wasted no time in giving a big thank you to his family—especially his parents, who he said have served as positive role models throughout his life.
"They model for me the importance of community service," he said to the crowd. "My mom and dad were one of the founders of the Friends of the Chinatown Library many years ago."
A longtime resident and volunteer, Joe went on to list other ways his parents have given back to their communities before thanking the residents of South Pasadena.
"I would like to thank the people of South Pasadena who have given me the opportunity to serve the City," he said. "It is a very special privilege and very heavy burden. Not burden, but from the standpoint of public trust—that means a lot to me."
Next up was Marina Khubesrian.
A newcomer to South Pasadena's political scene, Khubesrian said that the experience she gained at Glendale Adventist Medical Center inspired her to run for City Council.
"It's hard to believe I'm here now given the hectic activities of the last few months and how intensely we've all worked," she said, adding: "I'm so grateful that you have given me your vote of confidence and set me here to do the public service and represent you."
A resident of South Pas for 14 years, Khubesrian thanked her family and friends—including her newly formed campaign committee, who are "all committed to helping the City go forward in the best possible shape that it can," she said.
"I commit to doing my best to represent you and making sure our City is going into the future being strong financially in good partnership with City Council, City Staff and you all—the public."
Last to be sworn in was Richard Schneider.
After thanking his family and previous council members for their service, he welcomed Joe and Khubesrian.
"Their words are very inspiring," he said of the new Council members. "I'm glad they are taking their seats with such a good attitude, and I'm sure they are going to do a fine job."
He went on to acknowledge other candidates who fell short in the City Council race.
"A lot of issues were discussed, and it was done with very little rancor and very little personal attacks, and I appreciate that from everybody," said Schneider acknowledging candidates Art Salinas and David Margrave in the audience.
"So I am very honored to resume this position. As Mr. Joe said, it's a humbling experience—especially when you get into it, you realize the responsibilities that you have."
Correction: Michael Cacciotti, , will officially be the new Mayor Dec. 21.
