Updated Sketch of Sexual Assault Suspect Released

SPPD is considering retrieving the evidence from the Sheriff's Department and sending it to another lab to speed up the investigation.

The department continue to patrol Monterey Road heavily as long as needed after two law enforcement dogs discovered a scent trail that indicated the suspect had circled the area.

However, no unusual activity has occurred on Monterey since the crime, Det. Mike Palmieri told Patch Thursday.

“We’ve added extra patrols [to Monterey Road] in the event that the suspect does live in the area,” he said. But, he continued, all indication is that this was a stranger attack. 

The department continues to wait on physical evidence collected from the crime scene to be processed and analyzed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Crime Lab for DNA.

And since this likely won't be completed until April or May, SPPD is considering other options: “We are exploring the cost and what the turn-around time would be [of sending it to another lab],” Palmieri said.
