Study: South Pas in the Top 10 of 'Creative Class' Neighborhoods in L.A. Metro Area

An urban researcher who studied growing class divides in major cities across the country, found that "L.A.'s once thriving working class districts are disappearing,'' according to an article in The Atlantic Cities.

An analysis of three classes that comprise the greater Los Angeles area -- blue collar, creative class and lower paid service workers --  puts South Pasadena in the top 10 Creative Class locations for the L.A. metro area, Curbed Los Angeles posted Tuesday.

The article links to the study by Richard Florida published in The Atlantic Cities. At the top of the list for "creative class'' is Turtle Rock/UC Irvine in Orange County, with an 84.3 percent creative class share. Number six on the list with 77.7 percent of the share is South Pas.

"The creative class includes people who work in science and technology, business and management, arts, culture, media and entertainment, law, and healthcare professions. All told the class's ranks make up 34.1 percent of the Los Angeles metro area's workers, just slightly higher than the national average. These are high-skilled, highly educated workers who average $80,859 per year in wages in salaries, significantly more than the national average for these workers.''
