2.5 Tons Of Fireworks Seized From Peninsula Storage Unit: Police

Police said illegal fireworks worth more than $300,000 were confiscated Wednesday from a South San Francisco storage unit.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Police confiscated a large cache of illegal fireworks Wednesday after receiving a tip about a storage unit in South San Francisco, according to authorities.

Police followed up on a report of fireworks at a storage facility on Oyster Boulevard around 10 a.m. Officers searched the unit and discovered more than 5,000 pounds of fireworks, worth over $300,000, police said.

The South San Francisco Fire Department worked with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Bomb Squad to collect the fireworks and remove them from the area. Police said there was no risk to the public, and the investigation remains active.
