October Indigenous Culture Art Show
Artists from the Bay Area exhibit art pieces related to their indigenous culture and ethnicity because each person has a heritage they value
The South San Francisco Cultural Commission invited artists—
“ to submit works that highlight their heritage and life experience, the foundation which shapes future hopes. In sharing, art becomes a bridge promoting cultural interconnectedness. Eligible mediums include two-dimensional and three-dimensional art.”
The Indigenous Culture Show is at the Library | Parks and Recreation Center, at 901 Civic Campus Way, at the 3rd floor gallery room, (#321). October 3 to October 31, 2025. During Reception a light, pre-packaged refreshments were available.
Great idea. Make use of the Parks and Recreation students to perform the entertainment during the exhibition. The ukelele students performed various songs. The graceful hula dancers with their attractive costumes and leis danced with flow, smiles interpreting the movements of hands and hips with delightful stories.

I’ve just provided the article with an overview of art pieces without description or history of the pieces for I’ve not interviewed the artists. In an Anthropology class I took in college , the professor said you can’t really compare which culture is superior or better than the other, for each culture has its own beliefs, values, systems, heritage embedded in the people.
My two pieces are Joy & Peace in Ancient Baybayin script , a pre-Hispanic script before Spain colonized the Philippines on 1521 and replaced it with the Roman Latin Alphabet. The reason why the script is very different from group of South East Asian countries but the old ancient Alphabet looks similar with neighboring countries.

There were different pieces from other countries but the indigenous culture piece that represented America was “Walkin in the Spirit by Doltsha Lexington: Walking in the Spirit gives you an awareness of freedom, no matter what culture you’re living in.” The painting has colorful Native American Indian meditating with whirling circles.
The American Native Indian is indigenous to USA; everybody else is an immigrant based on historic records . As President John F. Kennedy wrote in his book we are a “Nation of Immigrants.”
