Route 101 Closed In South San Francisco Due To Major Flooding
The California Highway Patrol is urging all traffic to avoid the area and use Route 280 as an alternative.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — All lanes of Route 101 are closed in both directions in South San Francisco due to major flooding, California Highway Patrol San Francisco announced just after 11 a.m. Saturday.
The CHP is urging all traffic to avoid the area and use Route 280 as an alternative, adding that it is not yet known when roads will reopen.
The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory in effect until 1 p.m. Saturday, warning of the potential for flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Some locations that will experience flooding include San Jose, Fremont, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Mountain View, Milpitas, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Gilroy, Newark, Campbell, Morgan Hill, Menlo Park, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Los Altos, East Palo Alto, Corralitos, Los Altos Hills, and Mount Hamilton, the NWS said.
According to the NWS Bay Area, the daily precipitation record for December 31 was set at 2.12 inches in 2005 before being shattered Saturday, now sitting at 2.96 inches and counting.

"Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads," the NWS warned, adding that most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
