South San Francisco Drunken Driver Allegedly Caused Fatal Crash on Highway 101

Bay City News -- A South San Francisco man was arrested on numerous drunken driving charges after allegedly causing a crash that killed one of four passengers in his car early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At around 3am Saturday, a non-injury crash near South San Francisco began causing traffic to slow down and back up to Brisbane on southbound U.S. Highway 101, CHP Officer Shawn Chase said.

Sean Quintero, 18, who was driving south on Highway 101 in a 1999 Toyota Corolla with four passengers, did not see traffic stopping ahead with enough time to slow down, Chase said.

Instead, he swerved two lanes over and crashed into the back of a Ford Explorer, which lurched forward and crashed into the back of a Toyota Scion.

San Jose resident Margaret QAQish, 17, was killed in the crash. She was the middle passenger in the back of Quintero's car, Chase said.

Quintero, who officers allegedly determined was under the influence of alcohol, and three other passengers were taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

No other injuries were reported.  

Quintero was arrested on numerous drunken driving charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence, drunken driving causing serious bodily injury, driving with an open container, and possession of alcohol by a minor.
