42 Basketball Teams in One Gym

And the Studio City Recreation Center doesn't even have a proper basketball court.

The Studio City Recreation Center does some amazing things, but nothing is more amazing than having 42 basketball teams in a gym that really isn’t much of a basketball court.

“We have more than 500 families involved in these teams, it’s is very exciting,” said Department of Recreation park supervisor for Beeman, Julie Monroy.

And, anyone who has been inside the gym at the Beeman Park center knows that it’s really not a very big place to have a basketball game.

And so, those basketball players have to find alternative playing spaces at neighborhood schools and courts, but Monroy said they are able to do it, and everything is working out fine.

Meanwhile, the recreation center has kicked off the soccer season, and for the first time there’s a team with 3 and 4-year-old players.

There are also chances now to sign up for a variety of summer camps, many with exciting and unique field trips.

Summer camp costs have increased to $155 a week, causing some attendance to go down, but there are still many great programs to pick from for children to join.

City Councilman Paul Krekorian gave a big thumbs up to the center, saying, “This is my neighborhood park, we go here and it is fun. The budget for the parks and recreations department have been cut by one-third since Tom Bradley was mayor here, and yet they have still kept an outstanding program going.”

There are also programs geared for senior citizens and people of all ages and physical abilities.
