The Tonys were spot on when they gave the mind blowing magical marvelous musical, "A Strange Loop," 11 nominations in 2022, awarding it Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical. With Book, Music, and Lyrics by genuine genius Michael R. Jackson, no wonder this mesmerizing masterpiece had already received the Pulitzer Prize and New York Drama Critics Circle award in 2020. Now is your chance to experience the best of Broadway in our own backyard, at DTLA's majestic magnificent Ahmanson Theatre.

"A Strange Loop" will keep you movin' n' groovin' in your seat, yearnin' n' burnin' for more during the tight tantalizing, action packed, fast paced hour and 40 minutes. The compelling commanding captivating charismatic cast (Jordan Barbour, J. Cameron Barnett, Avionce Hoyles, Tarra Conner Jones, Malachi McCaskill, John-Andrew Morrison, and Jamari Johnson Williams), each a superstar in their own right at the top of their game, are guaranteed to illuminate your mind, touch your heart and soul, lift your spirits, and brighten your night.

Malachi McCaskill, who plays protagonist Usher (who is an usher by trade), had me at hello with a pristine precise proficiently polished performance in his Center Theatre Group debut. His enthralling exuberant exhilarating exciting energy is second to none. Similarly, I extend kudos commendation applause and accolades to Director Stephen Brackett, Choreographer Raja Feather Kelly, and Scenic Designer Arnulfo Maldonado for their A+ ace adept adroit astonishing astounding artistry.

The masterful music and luscious lyrics are characters in themselves. Even though there are only seven actors and six musicians, it's as if an entire ensemble and complete orchestra are filling the stage. The simple plot about a young gay black writer writing a musical about a young gay black writer surprises with depth and weight on a prolific profound primal level.

The message and take away is that we are all the same no matter race, color, creed, sexuality financial position, etc. There's a bit of me in you and a bit of you in me. Your pain is my pain, your joy is my joy, your suffering is my suffering, your success is my success. "Come on people, now smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now."
