LAST CHANCE: Carpenter's 2nd Annual Earth Day Fair After School on Friday

At the Governance Council a new schoolwide Green Initiative was planned.

Tie dye, paper making, trash-to-treasure projects and other kinds of environmental fun will take place after school Friday at

It's kind of perfect timing, because just Thursday afternoon at the meeting, the board unanimously approved starting a Green Initiative to continue their path for being a completely green school.

Already there's Trash-Free Tuesdays where students are encouraged to bring lunches that require little or no trash.

 Sara Singer Schiff said, "LAUSD is striving to be the most green school district in the country, and we can do our part with some quick fixes."

Changing all lights to a more environmental light bulb is one way, and Schiff's parent collague Simon Millar said, "Carpenter is already doing well with its power usage, and it's nice that we have this passed on the eve of our own Earth Day celebration."

The after-school Earth Day Festival lasts until 4 p.m.  and is free.
