Laurel Canyon - Saving the Tom Mix and Frank Zappa estate (2.4 acres) setting it aside as Public Space

These 2.4 acres of land have been in private hands or mostly abandoned for years until the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (MRCA) and CLAW (Citizens of Los Angeles for Wildlife) recently teamed up to buy the lot and keep it as Open Space, allowing local wildlife to have easy access to a reliable water source, and the general enjoyment by the public. (It's unbelievably peaceful there.)

It's not a DONE deal yet. They are raising $$$$$ to meet the purchase price. A few years ago they completed the Let's Buy a Mountain and successfully set aside 14 acres of Open Space in the hills of Laurel Canyon. They are serious and committed team members with a record of success.

They are looking for small donations, to show the larger donors that this is a project the community can stand buy. Larger donors are interested, and want to see the commitment of "locals". The lot has a great history with Laurel Canyon. Home to Tom Mix - the first "Singing Cowboy" & home to Frank Zappa. Historical research shows that this was a transit stop for First Nation People as they traveled west toward Griffith Park.

View CLAW's amazing videos of local wildlife grazing on their 14 acres in the neighborhood. CLAW online.

I'll be posting pictures of the spring passing through this property and disappearing underground and presumably under Laurel Canyon Blvd.
