Mom Talk: Getting a New Dog, Explaining Who Picks up the Poop

Getting a new pet is a big responsibility. Not only is there the care and grooming, but simply picking up after the dog.

That's the part that the kids like the least, but it's a necessary part, in not only training your dog, but training your kid.

It's important to note that you can't just throw dog poo away in the trash without covering it ().

And, then there's the story that just came out about how much crap there really is:

  * The 78 million dogs make 10 millions tons of waste a year.

* That is enough to fill a line of fully-loaded trailers stretching from Seattle to Boston.

They also say:

Dog waste contains nutrients, bacteria and parasites that can contaminate water bodies and make people sick.

If you don't pick up after your pup, imagine this: droppings from about 100 canines over the course of two or three days can generate enough bacteria to close bays and other bodies of water in a 20-mile radius. 

"If you think picking up what your dog leaves behind is disgusting, try drinking it," DoodyCalls co-founder and CEO Jacob D'Aniello told the New York Daily News.

"The longer dog waste stays on the ground, the more it washes into the water and the environment." 

No one loves picking up after their pet, but remember: it's your doody.
