COMPANY is one of the first concept musicals to become popular. A concept musical is one without a linear plot. Instead, the musical is a series of non-linear scenes held together by a common theme. In COMPANY the theme is relationships and marriage.
Each vignette is more moving than the last, raising the bar with top notch terrific tremendous tantalizing talent. No wonder this premiere preeminent prominent production won five 2022 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival.
As Sondheim wrote in his book Finishing the Hat, COMPANY is about "the challenge of maintaining relationships in a society becoming increasingly depersonalized." And a real connection, as the musical points out, is the key to "being alive." Talk about an outstanding out of this world over the moon one of a kind wonderful work of art that's only grown more relevant with time!
