Studio City's Walkability Rating Ranks Highest in the Valley

The local neighborhood, where sidewalks are scarce, ranks 22 in Los Angeles.

Studio City ranks as the most walkable area in the San Fernando Valley, ranking 22 in Los Angeles.

Coming next in the Valley is North Hollywood at 26th, then Valley Village at 29th. Toluca Lake ranked 31 and Sherman Oaks is 42.

This is all according to data provided by WalkScore.com, which ranks a city's walkability by measuring the proximity of individual addresses to various local resources, based on location and population data from the 2010 Census.

With a score of 75, as "very walkable," Studio City made the grade even though many of the neighborhoods, like Colfax Meadows, has no proper sidewalks, and even parts of Ventura Boulevard are without finished sidewalks.

Ventura Boulevard's walking shopping district, the Los Angeles River walk and the many parks in the area obviously helped the ranking.

The Walk Score ranks Downtown and Koreatown as the most walkable in the city, and West Hollywood as one of the most walkable cities in the area (and country).

Los Angeles Magazine's National Walking Day challenge, to be celebrated Wednesday, is an opportune time to find out. The challenge asks L.A. residents to make it a rule not to drive anywhere within two miles of their house.
