Unbelievable! 'Colfax Curb Coyotes' Strike Again

Less than 24 hours after the city to help with a hazardous exit out of the Studio Village complex on Colfax Avenue in Studio City, vandals once again painted the curbs gray. This was the fourth time.

The "Colfax Curb Coyotes," the name that officials and nearby residents have given to the vandals, came some time in the middle of the night to paint over the red no-parking curbs on the west side of Colfax Avenue.

At 9 a.m. and Studio City Neighborhood Council president John Walker were on site when the city Department of Transportation came out to paint the red curbs yet a third time, responding to the neighborhood concerns.

Tuesday morning, when hearing that the curbs were once again painted over gray, Walker said, "You are kidding? These are obviously people who care nothing about putting other citizens in real harm. The people who do these kinds of things don't care if they cause death or injury."

Nancy J. Brown, manager of Studio Village, emailed, "Well, here it is Tuesday Morning, following the ceremonious red curb paintings at 4365 and 4249 Colfax are white again this morning! . . .  This is ridiculous!"

Walter Reed Middle School teacher Patti Eskander has lived in Studio Village for six years and must take that dangerous left turn to get to school.

"I was so mad when I saw that they were painted over yet again this morning," Eskander said. "This is just insane. It's someone who considers it a game."

Eskander said she was relieved to see that the city had painted the curbs red when she returned from school Monday afternoon. But then, this morning, the one dangerous spot was once again gray, which makes it difficult to see oncoming traffic unless pulling into the bike lane.

"It is so foolish that someone would be doing this again," Eskander said. "It is ridiculous that this would happen again. Anyone who has tried to drive out that way knows how extremely treacherous it is."

Eskander, who obviously works with teens a lot, does not think it is a youthful prank.

"The people doing this are incredibly selfish," Eskander said. "They are not at all concerned about other people's needs."
