Don't miss this opportunity to pop in to the classrooms of the grades your children will attend next and future years! Our teachers are fantastic and love to meet incoming parents.

Parking will be available on the playground, entering through the Oakcrest gate.

Please attend next week's PTA Voting Meeting at 8am this Wednesday 4/18 in the Library. This is our Electionmeeting. We have nominations for all positions (but would happily entertain any new nominations), so don't stay away because you're afraid you might get volunteered! OurHospitality Committee will provide the caffeine and goodies to keep us awake, so when Lana has theTreasurer's Report and Mike has the Secretary's Report, we'll all be alert enough to pay attention. We will also talk about upcoming Teacher Appreciation, so please come with your ideas. And of course we'll discuss any Spring Fling updates we can fit into the time allotted. So please plan to attend.

We need more HOT WHEELS TRACKS, SETS AND CARS for the 5th & 6th grade Hot Wheels booth at Spring Fling! Please email info@valleyviewelementary.org if you can loan us hot wheels and accessories. Please mark them carefully and we will return them safe and sound!

Also, we really need lots more HOLLOWED EGGS for Confetti eggs, too! Please bring them to the office as well.

Join us for a SIGN MAKING PARTY on Monday 4/23 at 2pm in the Auditorium. There is a lot behind the scenes to make the Spring Fling work. If you have some time, pop by after school next Monday and help us make some signs. It's actually a lot of fun!

Your PTA Dollars at Work: Malibu Lagoon

This Wednesday the 18th, our 5th and 6th graders will be treated to a bus field trip to Malibu Lagoon.

Our students will view and identify lagoon plankton through microscopes, learn about the energy cycle and the food web, and gain appreciation for the role of fungus, bacteria, and insects in the ecosystem. This field trip allows the students to test water and discuss the properties present in the sample taken from the tide-pools at Malibu Lagoon.

Also, the students learn about marine biology and water reclamation, and the necessity of ecology preservation.

Thank you, Valley View donors, for your continued support of these valuable extra-curricular learning opportunities for our students!  Masks, Field Trips, LEGO and more See more photos on Patch, and add yours!Check out these links.* Scary, Funny, Symmetrical Masks Made by Fourth Graders * See what LEGO modelsyour children have created, and add your own photos and video. MICHELE SZYMANSKI

This is my 9th year at Valley view.  My oldest Dante Luna went to valley view from 2nd to 5th grade and currently Donovan Sylla is there and has been there since kindergarten.  I am a math teacher at Walter Reed middle school and used to run the talent show at Valley view when we were on different schedules. I choreographed, organized and wrote skits for the talent show. I was also vice president of the PTA for a year and helped with many fall festivals. Unfortunately now that my school is the same as Valley View, I do not get over there as often, but luckily my brother Mike is able to help out a lot.

Q1: What is your greatest fear? MS: My greatest fear is snakes.  I can't even go in the reptile house at the zoo. Donovan knew i really loved him when I took him to the reptile show in Pasadena, but i could barely get through the front door, because they had cobras right at the beginning. He loves snakes.  Q2: What is your favorite word?MS: My favorite word is pickle. I just can't seem to say that word without smiling, (ask my kids.)
Q3: What is your idea of perfect happiness?MS: My idea of perfect happiness is being able to bring a smile to someones face by doing a little act of kindness. I get the most joy when someone says "thanks, you made my day." Sometimes it only takes a smile at someone to make a difference.
Q4: Who are your heroes?MS:

True heroes in my eyes are those that go unnoticed, but make a difference, like teachers, policemen, mothers, fathers, uncles. Those that just do for others without rewards, because they care and love.

Q5: Who do you idolize?MS: I love Johnny Depp. My students bring me pictures of him and do projects about him. We have a little shrine in my classroom about him. The students think it is fun and in fact, one student got me an autograph from him signed to me.  She got an A in the class. :)
