Watch: LAPD Officer Saves Toddler's Life
A dramatic video shows a Los Angeles Police sergeant saving the life of a toddler who was choking at a busy Los Angeles intersection.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A little girl is alive today thanks to the quick action of a Los Angeles Police Department sergeant who saved the toddler from choking.
The Los Angeles Police Department released the officer's bodycam footage of the incident, which unfolded in dramatic fashion last week at an Echo Park intersection.
It began the night of Jan. 19, when a man carrying an unconscious child across the intersection at Bellevue Avenue and Echo Park Avenue screamed for help and flagged down Sgt Bumjin Kim, a 15-year veteran of the department.

"I don’t know what’s wrong, officer. Please, please," the man screams over and over again in the video.
With one arm, Kim holds the toddler while calling for paramedics. A woman can be heard screaming in the background as the child's arms and head hang down limply.

The man explains that the child was in the car with him when she stopped breathing.
In the video, Kim thrusts on the child's back, and says, “There, something came out.”
"Through his assessment, the Sergeant discovered a choking hazard inside the child’s airway. He conducted a finger sweep and back thrust," the LAPD said in a written statement. "As a result of his efforts, the unknown choking hazard dislodged and the child regained consciousness."
Able to breathe again, the child immediately begins crying.
Paramedics arrived and took the child to Children's Hospital where she was treated and listed in stable condition, according to the LAPD.
