โ€œIt does create that neurological shift that can produce happiness,โ€ Psychologist Deborah Serani, a senior professor at New Yorkโ€™s Adelphi University, told NBCโ€™s โ€œTodayโ€ show. โ€œI think anything that takes us out of our normal habituation, the normal day in, day out ... signals our senses, and then our senses measure if itโ€™s pleasing or not.โ€

Decorating for the holidays โ€œwill spike dopamine, a feel-good hormone,โ€ she said. โ€œFor a lot of us, Christmas is a magical time, itโ€™s a time of innocence. Itโ€™s a time of joy.โ€
