A bomb squad detonated a crudely constructed improvised explosive device near Suisun City on Sunday, a Solano County sheriff's lieutenant said.
The sheriff's office received a report around 8 a.m. Sunday about a suspicious, 5-gallon water jug on Prosperity Lane near Tolenas Avenue in unincorporated Solano County between Fairfield and Suisun City, sheriff's Lt. Brad DeWall said.
A long electrical wire was protruding from the device that contained an assortment of small explosives and flammable materials, DeWall said.
The device was in a remote residential area and would not have damaged any property if it exploded, DeWall said.
Suisun City police and fire, the California Highway Patrol and the Yolo County bomb squad also responded to the report, according to DeWall.
The bomb squad used a robot to detonate the plastic jug around 1:30 p.m. and the sheriff's office is investigating the incident, DeWall said.
Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff's Sgt. Brian Travis at (707) 421-7090.
