Evacuation Warnings Lifted For Temecula Brush Fire

TEMECULA, CA — A non-injury brush fire that burned Thursday afternoon on Temecula's east end scorched 33 acres and forced evacuation warnings before crews were able to halt its spread, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

As of 6 p.m., the forward rate of spread on the Frogs Fire was stopped, no stuctures were lost and all evacuation warnings were lifted, the agency announced.

The blaze was 20% contained as of Thursday evening and crews were expected to remain on scene through the night, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson Tawny Cabral.

The blaze was first reported at approximately 3:30 p.m. at Santa Rita and Anza roads, according to the fire department.

Evacuation warnings were temporarily issued for the area south of Highway 79 South, east of Butterfield Stage Road, north of Anza Road, and west of Los Caballos Road.

Cabral said an evacuation center was not opened because the warnings were not orders. The area is home to many horse ranches; Galway Downs is located in the vicinity.

Crews attacked the blaze by ground and air. More than 100 firefighters were assigned to the brusher, the fire department reported.

There was no immediate word regarding how the fire started.
