DUI Checkpoint Planned In Temecula This Week

TEMECULA, CA — A DUI checkpoint is planned in Temecula this week, and motorists caught driving impaired and subsequently convicted will face about $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, authorities announced Monday.

The checkpoint is scheduled from 7 p.m. Aug. 23 to 1 a.m. Aug. 24 at an undisclosed location within city limits, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired-driving-related crashes, the law enforcement agency said.

During the operation, deputies will be looking for drivers under the influence of any substances that can impair driving, including alcohol, narcotics, some prescription and over-the-counter medications, and cannabis.

According to the sheriff's department, a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provided funding for the program.
