86-Year-Old Driver Did Not See Pedestrian When He Hit Him: Menifee PD

MENIFEE, CA — Menifee police are continuing to investigate a weekend crash that left a pedestrian with serious head injuries.

The crash — involving an 86-year-old man behind the wheel of a 1999 Mercury Villager — was reported at 5:31 p.m. Friday on Bradley Road, south of McCall Boulevard.

According to the Menifee Police Department, the crash was first reported by a witness who heard the incident but did not see it. The witness went to the scene and saw the driver providing aid to a pedestrian who was lying in the road.

The driver told the witness that he did not have a cell phone and asked for help contacting authorities.

When officers with Menifee PD arrived at the scene, they found the Villager stopped in the southbound lanes of Bradley Road, the driver on scene, and the pedestrian lying in the road.

The victim, described as an adult male, was suffering from major head injuries and abrasions on his hands and arms, police said. He was transported to an area hospital and was not stable, according to Menifee police. An update on the victim was not available.

A preliminary investigation by Menifee police showed the driver was heading south on Bradley Road and did not see the pedestrian crossing the road when he hit him.

"At this stage of the investigation, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing," Menifee police reported.
