Emergency Evacuation Plan Underway In Temecula, Residents Encouraged To Participate

TEMECULA, CA — The city of Temecula is developing its first official Emergency Evacuation Plan, and residents are encouraged to participate in the milestone effort.

The Temecula Office of Emergency Management will hold a public Community Evacuation Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Civic Center Conference Center, 41000 Main Street.

Residents who attend the meeting will learn how evacuation zones are determined, be introduced to the city’s new "Know Your Zone" system, find out how to register for emergency alerts, preview the upcoming evacuation website, hear directly from local public safety agencies, provide feedback, and ask questions to help shape the final plan.

The upcoming meeting will be the first of several outreach opportunities for the community.

"In recent years, natural disasters — including wildfires, floods, and extreme weather — have impacted communities across California, the nation, and the world," according to a city of Temecula news release. "These events serve as urgent reminders of how critical it is for cities and residents to be proactively prepared before an emergency occurs."

City officials say they are taking action now "to ensure the safety of its residents by creating a plan that is clear, accessible, and responsive to the needs of the community."

"As part of this effort, the City strongly encourages residents to be involved in the planning process," according to the city.

A safe community is a prepared community," Temecula City Council Member Matt Rahn said in a released statement. "By involving our residents early in the process, we can build an evacuation plan that reflects the unique needs of Temecula. We encourage everyone to take part in shaping a safer, stronger future together."
