TEMECULA, CA — Border Patrol agents arrested a woman Tuesday along Interstate 15 near Temecula after she was found transporting four bundles of heroin stashed inside a diaper bag, according to a U.S. Border Patrol news release.

The incident began at approximately 7 p.m. after agents stopped the 38-year-old woman who was driving northbound in a black Ford pickup truck with her 5-year-old daughter, the USBP reported.

It's not clear what prompted agents to flag the woman, whose name and citizenship were not disclosed, but the USBP said a background check revealed she had a previous conviction for narcotics smuggling.

The mother and child were transported to Murrieta's Newton-Azrak Border Patrol Station for processing. The woman and the $69,120 worth of narcotics were eventually turned over to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department; the young girl was placed into "the custody of an appropriate party," the USBP reported.
