Hiker Airlifted To Safety In Ortega Highway Incident

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A helicopter rescue crew on Sunday afternoon pulled an injured hiker from a trail near Southwest Riverside County.

The injury was reported at 2:28 p.m. about a mile from an unspecified trailhead, near the 34000 block of Ortega Highway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The rescue helicopter extracted and took the victim -- who suffered moderate injuries -- to an awaiting air ambulance, which flew the hiker to a hospital, the agency reported.

The hiker's name and extent of their injuries has not yet been revealed by authorities.
