Sedan Collides With Semi-Truck, Killing One In Cabazon

Three of four Westbound I-10 lanes were closed during the cleanup and investigation after the fatal crash.

CABAZON, CA — A motorist was killed Tuesday in a collision between a sedan and tractor-trailer on Interstate 10 in Cabazon, forcing lane closures on the busy east-west artery.

The fatality occurred about 1:45 p.m. on westbound I-10, just east of Morongo Trail, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP, the driver of the sedan was speeding just before it and the big rig impacted, but no other details were immediately available.

CHP officers and Riverside County Fire Department personnel reached the location minutes later and found the occupant of the car deceased. The trucker apparently was not hurt.

Officers shut down three of four lanes, leaving only the fast lane available for westbound transit, because of the crash, according to reports from the scene.

The big rig was still drivable and was removed from the location.

The lane closures were expected to be lifted by 4 p.m.

An investigation was underway.
